My lovely bride ( and she IS lovely) and I have been having to endure a heavy burden for over two years. The worst times have been since just before Christmas until this week. If I have learned an lessons form this it would be the following:
1. The Lord does indeed help those that help themselves.
This reminds me of a short parable, if you will allow me to digress just a bit. A bad flood was ravaging a town, and young man climbed upon his house to escape the rising flood waters. As the waters to continue to rise, a sheriff's rescue boat came buy, and stopped. "Climb aboard!" yelled the deputy on the boat. " No, the Lord shall provide for me" replied the man. The sheriff's boat left, and the water continued to rise Soon, a Rescue Boat form the State Patrol came buy, " Quick get in the boat, and save yourself" yelled the State patrolman. " I'll be fine" yelled the man sitting on his roof. And flood waters continued to rise.
Soon, the man found himself standing on his roof, with the water now rising to his chest, just then A Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter flew over and hovered above him. The Brave rescue Swimmer jumped out of the Helicopter and swam to the man. " They'll lower a basket from the helicopter, We'll get in the basket and get out here!" said the swimmer. " No." Said the man, "The Lord shall provide for me!" The helicopter crew lowered the basket, the swimmer crawled in and was raised up, and the helicopter flew away. Next the waters rose above them mans head, and he succumbed to the flood. He awoke at the foot of the lLord Almighty. ' " My Lord! My Lord!' cried the man, Why has thou forsaken me???"
God looked back at the man and said, "I sent you two boats and a helicopter, what else do you want?
"
2. There are evil people in this world. There are people who want to do harm, just for the sake of doing harm. Not for religious beliefs, not for the sake of money, not even for the sake of advancing themselves by deceit, just to be pure evil.
3. Remember to not just rely on Jesus Christ or Lord and savior in times of need, but to thank him for delivering us from evil, and lifting our burdens. Don't just use him as a crutch, relying on him in times off need, and then casting him off when we feel we no longer need a crutch to lean on.
4. What does not kill us makes us stronger, but many times, much more callus.
