Respectfully disagree with you MD. Pete Rose is the all time hit leader and played the game harder than anyone I have ever seen. He has paid his price. He deserves to be in the BHOF.

You know, all he had to do is come clean from the beginning. He would have had some consequences to pay, but I don't think he would have been banned from baseball and the HOF. His constant lying and denying is what cost him everything. The only person lower than him, IMO, is Jim Gray. Can't stand him for trying to highjack the all-star game by hard-nosing Rose in that interview. There's a time & place for everything and that wasn't it.

I understand him being out now, but the first time they let one of those steroid freaks in....Rose better be in right along with them.

I agree NavyChief. Rose was the only man I ever sen that hustled every play to every base whether he was out or not. He didn't show off on a HR, he simply hustled
around the bases and never tried to insult a pitcher. He belongs in the HOF. RTR!

BINGO!!  Everything I have read about this guy that's not sports-related, is negative and talks about what a worthless individual he is.

I agree with the Marshall on this one.  Anyone who has ever played professional baseball at any level knows that gambling is a "capital offense" and that if you participate in it you are commiting the unpardonable sin of baseball.  If you know the history of baseball and history of Judge "Kennesaw Mountain" Landis you will understand why this rule is so unforgiving.  Rose was a grest ballplayer, perhaps one of the greatest, but like a lot of great and powerful men he thought he was above the law.  In the article he compares what he did to running a stop sign. In my opinion he still doesn't get it.  He is not greater than baseball.

As far the comparison to what Rose did and the current steriod scandal.  There is one very big difference.  Baseball has had a long standing and well understood rule against gambling, even has a loong history of dealing harshly with those who did it.
That is not the case with steriods.

I don't know, I go back and forth on this one. Rose is a scumbag, but I agree with navychief to a point. The only problem is we are only aware of a handful of guys who were juiced. I think the HOF stands a good chance of admitting someone (or already has) that was juiced that we DON'T know about. Rose is a known commodity and has lied for years until he saw an opportunity to "salvage" his reputation by admitting to gambling. I know he is the all-time hits leader and it is a shame to leave him out, but like 2 said, all he had to do was admit it at the beginning and none of this would have happened.

I'm trying to think of someone admitted to the HOF who was probably juiced with roids, but I can't think of anyone off the top of my head. Future candidates who I know weren't would include:

Greg Maddox
Tom Glavine
Dale Murphy
Chipper Jones
Larry Walker (not 100% about him & roids)

Major League Baseball did not have a comprehensive drug policy until 2005.  Before that they treated steriods like durg useage and required rehabilitation programs.  Comparing that to its long standing and well defined  rules and policy on gambling is apples and oranges.

True. But gambling does not alter your stats and/or acheivements.

True, but gambling has much to do with the integrity of the game. Cool

Two wrongs doesn't make a right, none of them should be considered for the HOF.

Does forgiveness ever come into mind when these guys are called names and are made to look so horrible? I do believe that we loved watching them play if they was on the team we liked, if not, then we hated them, is this correct? RTR!
