Must be from a Columbia professor.

You may be confusing Columbia House Tapes and Record Club (BHO alma mater) with Columbia University. HTH

I will say half of teachers do more harm than good.  They have the easiest degree in school and are usually people with poor ambition.  Work is hard, so they teach.  Save your children and home school or break out your wallet and send them to a respectable private school.  Sending them to public school just teaches them how to B.S. and a whole bunch of silly social crap that isnt applicable past the age of 18.

Over the years I have thought back to teachers I had in the public school system-- mostly misfit toys.

exactly, they are babysitters til about 3rd grade, then the real weirdos come out.  I had a couple of excellent teachers.  They had nothing in common except they were NOT really teachers, one was a young guy still in grad school who taught me trig, the other was an old retired engineer who taught me physical science.  The lifers all were ridiculous.  And what's up with the female P.E. teachers who dont coach anything?

I had a math teacher (7th) grade that had to drive an hour to work each day. She was sooooo tired she slept at her desk during my first period class. It took a couple of years (nature of math classes) to catch up with what I lost that year.

WV and smitty, you are both right. We sent my son to a pre-k program at a private school here in Mobile, and I think he has learned more this past year than some kids in a public school kindergarten class learn. I had a teacher in the 11th grade who literally sat in front of the class and READ THE TEXTBOOK. No teaching at all. It was really pathetic (and, I am ashamed to say, really easy to cheat in  Embarrassed  )

This is not to throw off on public school teachers. I know many who work their butts off everyday to help provide a good education to today's students. Unfortunately, its the bad ones that tend to stick out more.

LoL

yeah the teacher discussion always riles up a few folks.  But I dont really have to back up my case.  The evidence is everywhere.  Perhaps it's the system.

Cheating is just problem solving.  If you arent cheating, you arent trying.
