Quote
Saban said, "I think the big disadvantage of Wildcat was the way people started to load the box as soon as you had a non-quarterback at quarterback.

"You didn't play pass defense and you put everybody in the box. So even though they created an advantage by having somebody have to cover the quarterback so that's an extra man on the field, but you created it because you have nobody playing pass defense.

"So it became more difficult to create an advantage. Now some of those plays you ran in Wildcat is what these good running quarterbacks run now in the spread. So it's still alive, but it's not just non-quarterbacks running it. It's real quarterbacks."

Saban also said Arkansas occasionally plays some Wildcat so it might make a cameo in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday evening.

"Bring it."

I'll never forget HTWMI taking over the South Carolina game in '09.  Don't know if we'll ever see something like that again.

David Palmer ran the Wildcat before it was known as the Wildcat. He was good at it too.

Yep, he single-handedly won the Ole Miss game in Oxford after the QB (?) was injured.  That performance might have won him the Heisman, but for a DUI!

The QB was Jay Barker.

The two point conversion he made in 1993 to tie Tenn when they had us beat was a thing of beauty. UT knew what was coming they just couldn't stop it.

Barker, right.  Good for you.  Applause E-Cred

I was there, but forgot.
True, against Tenn it looked like Tenn had the play defended well, but somehow Palmer managed to squeeze into the endzone.

I watched that one from the comfort of my home. Absolutely correct. DP was the quickest and fastest player on that field and nobody could stop him. I went crazy when he tied that game up. If I remember correctly, Heath Shuler was the UT QB.

It was standing room only at Legion Field.  That was the last tie we will ever see.  They started the OT rule a year or two later.

I was a 13 year old boy in the student section at that game.  Let me tell you, I learned a few words and gestures that day.  The student section seemed a lot rowdier then than it did 6 years later when I was a freshman.

I couldn't find a seat in the student section.  We stood on the walkway area behind the end zone.

I was in the upper deck. I lived in Nebraska then. I worked in a business trip to Atlanta earlier in the week. I rented a car and drove to B'ham. Me and my brother went to the game. We were riding a long winning streak and the tie broke the winning streak. A few weeks later LSU broke the unbeaten streak.

I think Kenyon or one of our faster backs would be great for the wildcat. RTR!
