Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban has reportedly signed a massive contract extension to remain in Tuscaloosa.

ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit was the first to report the news

***********************

Rumor had it that Saban was at least considering the possibility of going to the University of Texas to tackle a new challenge. His wife, Terry Saban, denied that speculation and insisted that her husband would remain with the Tide for the rest of his career, per a Nov. 26 report by Sharon Terlep of the Wall Street Journal, saying, "We're staying, we're not going anywhere."

Saban was already outearning Texas head coach Mack Brown for the highest salary in the country amongst college football coaches, per the USA Today. This extension to remain with the Tide now widens the gap, and adds credence to Saban's own proclamation that he is totally committed to Alabama.

CNS has a better chance of winning the lottery than he does going to Texas. Wink

It's no surprise that Saban is staying
Now that the latest chapter of “Nick Saban is getting antsy at Alabama” is over, maybe the rest of the college football world will begrudgingly come to the realization that he truly has found a home.

Saban’s not unlike a lot of coaches. By nature, he’s a builder, and he’s built Alabama’s program into the envy of the sport at the collegiate level.

But this is no longer a project for him. This is and will be his legacy, and I think he’s had it in his mind for some time now that Alabama will be his final coaching stop.

Nick Saban is staying at the University of Alabama, just like he said all along.

Saban reached an agreement Friday that is expected to raise his salary to between $7 and $7.5 million per year from its current annual compensation of almost $5.4 million and extend his term as head football coach of the Crimson Tide, Tidesports.com has learned.

Nick Saban's new contract extension is expected to exceed $7 million annually.
"We are very pleased to have this agreement completed," Saban said in a statement released Friday night by UA. "(Wife) Terry and our family are very happy in Tuscaloosa. It has become home to us. This agreement allows us to continue to build on the tremendous success that we have enjoyed to this point - successes that have transcended the football field. We are excited about the future and the University of Alabama is where I plan to end my coaching career.

Maybe some folks will have a better understanding of why CNS has very little patience with the media now. All of this about CNS leaving is one of the tackiest and unfounded sport stories that I have seen or read in a long time.

I'm really looking forward to seeing CNS unload on some of these socalled high profile sports analysts and journalists in the near future that seem to know a lot about nothing. Wink

The "stare" will be in abundance at PC's this year, I'm guessing.

They were talking on ESPN radio out here yesterday about the contract Saban has/had.  They said he controls basically everything he wants to, even down to meals at banquets.  They also said he gets to keep 100% of his endorsement money.  The guys on the radio were talking about how unusual that was, that most of the time the university got part of the endorsement money.

The best program with the best coach gets the best contract on college football. Makes perfect sense.
