I was concerned at first until I saw that you posted this and it must be about James Arness and not the CRS Marshal.

They don't even make good TV shows like that any more. I still watch it when I happen to come across a rerun.

I loved ole Matt and Doc, Festus wasn't bad. That was one of the Top Westerns I watched, it ranked just ahead of The Lone Ranger to me. RTR!

I didn't know he was still alive, but that saddens me to hear that he passed.

Not many folks my age (30) have ever taken the time to watch an episode of Gunsmoke. Even fewer of them actually like it. I love it and prefer to watch it more than 95% of what's on TV today. It's one of the few shows that I can watch with both of my parents and we all three be happy as a lark.

Matt, Doc, Festus, and Newly were all very good characters. Festus and Doc bickering back and forth is classic.

I've probably seen 150-200 episodes of the show, and I think I could count on one hand how many were with Chester. I had no idea there were 635 episodes of the show made, and Festus was only in the last 11 seasons (there were 20 total). Those seem to be the predominant reruns they show.

Many of the old westerns had such good values and simple story plots. I enjoy watching them just to feel comforted sometimes.
