Sometimes for a person to change their lifestyle they have to experience total failure. Getting a second chance in life isn't and doesn't always look the same for someone that is in a need for  that second chance. It could be drugs, alcohol, etc. and in Kiffen's case, it seems to be his overzealouse ambitions in life. He made it to the top of his goal in life by becoming a head coach at a very young age but he wasn't near mature enough to handle all of the public exposure that came with it and made himself look like a total idiot at times, which help bring on his failure in coaching.

Nick Saban isn't the average Joe when it comes to developing a person. It becomes a personal goal for him to take that someone and make them a better person first and then teach them how to be successful in life playing football or whatever their goal may be. We all just don't know about some of the players that he has recruited that had big problems with themselves when they came on campus to play for Bama and it took a lot of personal attention from him and the other coaches to change these players into someone who is now respected and appreciated. These are the qualities in life that they had never thought of before and would have never have thought of them had not CNS and his staff took a chance with them. We hear of some of the players who experince this wonderful life change but there are many others that we don't.

It will be very interesting to follow the saga of Lane Kiffen and any others that may be hired in the near future at Bama, to see how much change we see in them as they are exposed to a whole new lifestyle. I'm betting it will be a positive change for them and who knows, it might be the change that permits them to reach those lofty goals that they had once dreamed of, to be succesful, but had failed miserably.JMO

I agree. Being named the Head Coach of an NFL team at the age of 32 would be a heady experience and obviously went right to his head. From then on he thought his stuff did not stink and that he could do no wrong. That attitude continued, big time, at Tennessee, but Pat Haden brought him back down to earth at USC.

Don't think I am not supporting Coach Saban here.  What I am is a little hesitant to accept this guy because of his past.  Maybe he has been humbled and as someone else stated he will be learning from one of the best IF he has gotten away from his old ways.

I, for one, appreciate anyone who gives honest, realistic, & open-minded observations and/or critiques, even if they seem negative. No one is perfect, everyone screws up, and NO ONE is above criticism or honest second-guessing. Anyone who reads this forum knows I get worked up over blind, loyal, hero-worship by others. Keep up the good work and honest appraisals.
