Apparently was just tweeted by Cecil.

Quote
Alabama announces that Nick Jacobs has been released from his basketball scholarship. Had been on "leave of absence" since Feb. 19.

No more excuses for Coach Grant, even if the whole team comes down with malaria, diphtheria, & lice, he has to win significantly this year.

There has been a lot of rumors CAG told him his scholarship might not be available. CAG is still trying to get one more player.

Jacobs has been a disappointment since his freshmen year. He can score but he does not play defense or rebound. We have three good big guys in Hale, Taylor and Kessens. Cooper, Garrett and Norris are all 6-7 and can rebound. We will be alright.

You are putting a whole lot of faith in untested players, let's hope it works out.

I am ready to try someone new. Jacobs is slow, lazy and only plays on the offensive end. We have better options this year. You make it sound like we just lost Erwin Dudley.

We lost a senior with great potential but he would not work hard and use it. I was hoping he had grown up, I guess not.

Guess this kind of puts a kink in your plan of having Jacobs as a major contributor this coming season?

Last year should have been his last year.  He got a do over.

I really think if there was a viable candidate available Grant is not in Tuscaloosa this season.

If he is fired after this year nobody can say that he was not given every chance he deserved, and more.

Contract, or not.  Board of Trustees could buy him out from their personal accounts.  Money is not really a problem.

So many other smaller schools with less attendance, less money, and less conference exposure competing and succeeding at the D1 NCAA level.

In the mean time Grant continues to flounder and his supporters make lists of excuses.

Jacobs has been a disappointment since his freshmen year.
Who recruited him?  Who offered him a scholarship?

Correct me if I am wrong.  Have Grant's "best" years not relied heavily on Gottfried's recruits?

What is the point of your 100% negative post. Are you saying Grant should have kept an under performing senior with a poor work ethic and discipline problems?

This is so sad but sometimes you have to release a player to hopefully get better and brighter. By brighter, I mean Basket Ball wise. It is over and done, no enjoyment there but let's see who we can come up with now that plays BB on both ends of the floor. Agreed? RTR!

I agree about him getting a sixth year based on almost no achievements. I disagree about a viable candidate being available. There are several coaches worth looking at. good point about his recruits, but I think it's an issue of not developing talent.
