Another Tuscaloosa to Matre Dei connection, and a Bama legacy.

Williams’ father, Shelby, played basketball at Alabama. The family moved to the Golden State when the 2022 standout was one or two.

“I’m really excited,” Williams said of getting set to make his first trip back to his birthplace. “Being that I grew up an Alabama fan, it’ll be really cool. Getting out to the campus, seeing the facilities, see the field, just all that stuff, even being able to see my family that still lives in Alabama will be very cool to me.”

Class of 2022 commit from Thompson HS.

Quote
Commitment No. 1 is in for Alabama in the class of 2022 as Nick Saban and company landed four-star weak-side defensive end Jeremiah Alexander on Monday afternoon, the Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson product announced on Twitter. The state’s top-ranked player chose the Crimson Tide over Georgia and LSU after returning home from a Junior Day visit last weekend where he named the Tide his leader.

This is a bad precident:

Quote
Handley defensive end Dylan Brooks, currently the top 2021 high school prospect in Alabama, committed to Tennessee on Sunday.

The five-star prospect is currently ranked as the No. 1 senior recruit in the state, according to the 247 composite rankings.

The Vols now have commitments from five of the top 30 players in Alabama.

UTenn is making too much noise in recruiting lately.  To me, this is getting troublesome.  Several of their recent commits had offers from Bama. (Don't know what kind of offers.)

Their high ranking is because of quantity not quality. They have 19 commits only 6 of which are in the top 300. They have mostly 3 star commits.

They have 9 in the 247composite top 300, including two 5*.

Their current class without adding another player would have ranked 15th in the country last year and 5th in the SEC (ahead of Auburn and Florida).  If Pruitt gets 4 more players of any quality to fill out a full class of 25, you're talking about a top 10 class.  That's quite an accomplishment in a state that puts out little SEC-caliber talent and competing with Saban and Kirby in two bordering states.

With the NCAA having granted Spring sport athletes an additional year of eligibility I can't help but wonder how that might effect baseball and softball recruiting for next year.  I mean, if a team has some outstanding talent that decides to return for that extra year, will that effect the decision of a HS kid with also outstanding talent/potential if he/she had been considering the same school?  Also, won't that mess up the numbers of players on each team over what the NCAA currently allows potentially?

These are great questions and I would like for ncaa to just leave things alone. That is my personal opinion. RTR!
