Reece Davis and company were in Tuscaloosa yesterday for College Football Live, watching Bama's practice.

Of course the discussion turned to the QB competition.

Observations:  They thought both QBs looked good.  Sims practiced with the 1s in the morning, and Coker practiced with the 1s in the afternoon.

Blake Sims looked more comfortable with the offense and made quicker decisions.

Coker has the better arm and threw 5 nice long passes.  Coaches worked with Coker on his release time, making quicker decisions.  They thought he was the more naturally talented of the two, but less familiar with the offense.

They thought we would see both QBs in the first few games, with any decision about a starter having to be made before the Florida game.

Interesting read to me. I believe CNS had his starting QB established before the 1st game? All these little injuries drive me crazy. Every day of practice that is lost we can not get back. Then boom it is game day and we still got those little injuries that we play through. So our men are not completely a 100% when they play. RTR!

I'm not totally surprised. Sounds like no one has pulled away in the competition as of yet, so to see a platoon situation at first seems about right. This could end up playing out like the A.J. - Phil Sims situation a few years back.

As a side note, I don't know why, but Danny Kanell REALLY gets on my nerves. What is with the former QBs on ESPN?

I have been reading the tea leaves of nuance in CNS's coach speak this past week. I am more confident than ever that Sims will start against WV. And my friend Chech will owe me the kings ransom of one whole e-cred

Is it crazy to think Blake Sims just might start the opening game for Alabama?
In his first live interview with the SEC Network, Nick Saban offered Sims a compliment that made it sound as if Jake Coker hasn't earned the starting quarterback job just yet.

What, what?

So I made a poor decision.   Embarrassed

Remember, Sims is just a twisted ankle from riding the bench!

[Saban] said this: “Blake has really played well and probably developed into a more consistent player at that position than maybe I thought he could at some point in time.”
Saban means when he had Sims playing RB?   Huh?

Sims may look good in practice, but has looked out-of-his-element when the lights come on.  Hopefully he can translate that success in practice into a game situation.

(But I'm not buying, not yet.)

Well I can see CNS giving him a good chance he has been faithful over the last few years. He did not jump ship when AJ got the job. He is a Bama man at heart. So we shall see. RTR!

Sims will start v. WV.

It is his job to lose.

Coker was brought into push practices to a higher level.

He has a legitimate chance to win the starting spot, but Sims is the guy.

Imagine a two tight-end (no receiver) set with Yeldon, Henry, Sims and Coker in the backfield.

BAMA is bringing the notre dame box to 2014 with a real possibility of running an effective wishbone formation as well.

Got to get that line to gel.

It is going to be interesting to see what Kiffin brings to the table and what Saban allows him to do on the field.

Honestly, my concerns for 2014 are on the defensive side of the ball.

I'm a female, so my experience and knowledge are different than most of you.
I have female intuition though.

While watching a video of quarterbacks practicing, the jersey numbers were unfamiliar to me except for Sims #6.  When #14 took the ball he looked to be in a different class than the three others.  He moved with confidence and had a really strong arm.  It was Jacob Coker of course.

From what I have read about Sims, he does great at practice but tends to freeze up and get out-of-sync in front of crowds when it matters.

From what I have read, looks like Coker has made his move this week. Let's see what happens in the final scrimmage.

Greg McElroy admitted that Coker had more "arm talent" than Sims, the kind of talent that NFL scouts are looking for, "and it really isn't close."  But still he thinks Sims is the current front runner.
