Well, we should have beat UF 56-7, maybe 49-0. We had 4 turnovers and 11 penalties. I can not remember this happening since Saban's been at Bama. UF had 200 total yards, 5 penalties, and 3 turnovers. Their offense had the imagination of a pee wee football coach. Hard to really judge our team because Florida is not very good. I am impressed by the overall effort by our D. The Florida D has huge problems. The SEC is still a mystery to me. LSU lost, USC is shaky, Ole Miss & Miss. St. still have to show me more, Georgia is hot/cold, & so on. Our receivers & QB situation look solid, not to mention the RB's.

If hscoach or someone else reads this, what might be the cause of so many penalties. Different offensive scheme, too many young players, or something else? Very hard to understand with Saban's track record.

What I took away from the game were the positives.  Florida has a good D, and we knew they would stack the box, cover the quick passes, and dare Sims to throw.  And Sims did throw it, right down their throats.

Excellent play calling by Kiffin.

Excellent game for Cooper.

Great game for Sims.

Great pass blocking.

Bama made some tough rushing yards in the second half.

Great defensive play.

And yeah, there were those turnovers and penalties.  Something that can be worked on.

My opinion of this team has improved since the game last night.  Maybe they are a contender.

The good news: penalties and ball security can be worked on.  Better news: Sims is turning into a very good QB, and Kiffin has transformed the offense.

I agree the SEC, especially the West, is wide open this year.  I'm biased, but I think Bama has looked the best all-around so far.  We'll see in two weeks if Ole Miss is for real or over-hyped again.  I think with an off-week to work on fundamentals and get healthier we'll see a strong performance against Ole Miss.  After the Florida game I feel much better about the Ole Miss game than I did a day ago.

GMac laying it on thick on Coop. "Best receiver in the country and probably the best player in the country".

I think Bama can take Ole Miss, though it will be a tighter contest than Florida, and Bama cannot afford to make the same mistakes.

In the long term, I'm more concerned about Miss State and TAMU than Ole Piss.

Miss State was more physical than LSU, and dominated Southern Miss more than Bama did.   Shocked

The Aggie killed USCe but are still a ?

I feel better about Bama after the Florida game, but hard to know where Florida is after their OT with KY and trouncing by Bama.

Ole Miss should provide a few more answers.

Roll Tide.

MD -- I have wondered the same thing about the mistakes, penalties, etc.  Not Sabanesque football and you gotta know they are not taught/coached that way in practice.  So what gives?

I wonder if it's simply inexperience + youth.  Are guys who had a redshirt year now starters, i.e. 2nd/3rd year in the program but still little game experience?

Offensive formations look quite different from last year so that may be part of it, but that 'excuse' can last only so long.

If I were writing a review of yesterday's game it would be: TIDE MAKES A STRONG BUT SLOPPY STATEMENT.

Overall, my ceiling on this team just went up.  They can be a great team but will have to work VERY hard to get there.

Good point and I agree with this. I really don't think Ole Miss is deep enough to handle us in the long run.

Nice summary, where I am too.  I had some early season concerns, and many of those were addressed yesterday.  Still a lot of work to do, but the team has potential to be great.

You can attribute most penalties to being mental mistakes. Sometimes fatigue is the reason behind the mental side of it.

We are bigger, faster, and better coached than any other team in the country, my only concern (Sims) was answered yesterday.  Aside from the rare turnovers it was a total beat down.

Picked up 12 first place votes in coaches and 6 in AP.

After the boogers performance thursday, I am not worried about anyone (maybe ATM)

The entire SEC is wide open. If we can improve to the point of eliminating the flagrant mistakes from yesterday, I don't see anybody beating us. Not even TAMU.
