Every year, as regularly as the end of daylight saving time, the SEC seems to stage a high-stakes game like this that shakes the college football landscape. This game had especially deep implications for Mississippi State (9-1, 5-1): To continue the best season in its 115-year history, it would have to topple the sport’s modern dynasty, Alabama.

Alabama had won 76 of 98 times in the series. It had claimed 15 national titles. It had the statues of five coaches, including Saban, in front of its stadium.

And Mississippi State had, well, Dan Mullen.

If he felt the smallest amount of guilt over spoiling the Bulldogs’ dream season, if he felt any excitement over winning, he did not show it.

I don't know why the press likes to paint Saban this way.  He was clearly happy with the win, even going into hyperbole.  He also was downright giddy after the LSU win.

I think he is really enjoying coaching this year.  He likes this team, the players have bought in and are playing together as a team. 

Blake Sims credited everyone but himself for the win, even though he was instrumental.  Still, it was a team win.

We gave them the underneath stuff knowing it would run out the clock by the time they scored, and protecting against the big play.

After we took a 12-0 lead in the first half MSU never had the ball with the opportunity to take the lead. They pulled within 6 points and we scored on our next drive to make it 25-13. They scored again with 0:15 remaining and failed to recover the onside kick.

MSU can hold their head high and say they played a good game. Claiming they should have beat us is just not true.
