Either way will mullen leave the program he has built from the ground up. He might not want to give up his work to another. Strange things happen in coaching. We shall see. RTR!

Personally, he leaves because he knows MSU is a hole & he can never expect to make the program a consistent winner. This year is an anomaly, he can expect 8-4, 7-5 to be par for the season at MSU (at best). Their football stadium seats a whopping 62,000 & their facilities are inferior to most others in the SEC. MSU fans probably believe he will stay for the love of Starkville and the MSU program, but they are wrong. By the way, MSU loses 13 starters to graduation and might lose a couple of juniors to the NFL. They will be toast next year.

I just think Petrino has too much baggage & Mullen, Hugh Freeze, & Stoops might be available. I kinda believe that Petrino would not leave Louisville, again.

Football coaches are too arrogant to know things like that.  Mullens might leave but not because he knows he can't sustain a winning tradition.  If he does it will be because UF or some other school comes up with more money. Period.  I seriously doubt Miss State can match the money that UF can throw at him.  If he goes there as their HBC then I think within 3 years they will be competing/winning the SECe.

What's funny is that a lot of people were disrespecting Mullen over the last couple of years, comparing him to coaches like Charlie Weiss and Houston Nutt.

Don't get me wrong.  I know it's not the money, per se.  It's power.
Just as Tuberville's wife said after he left Ole Miss and took the Aub job.  She implied that shopping in Oxford was limited.  She wanted more (Opelika??).  Actually, she WANTED...  That was the key.  She wanted what she didn't have.

Those who haven't had much money always think it's coaches wanting more money, as if coaches worry about paying the bills or affording those vacations.  When you make $5M, those worries are replaced by others.

It's power.  You want the Florida job, because you want it.  And you want to hear the cheers when you accept it.  And the money helps the wife get what she WANTS.

Is it about the dough, the Xs and the Os?  Or is it about the Joes?

While the dough is nice, I think it comes down to the Joes.  And there are a lot more Joes in Florida than Mississippi.

Yep, the UF job is one of the Top ten jobs in college football, maybe Top 7 & he would be the top dog in the state of Florida.

Winning.  For ambitious, competitive coaches, it's about winning.  It is much easier to do that at some schools than others -- ask Urban Meyer, or Steve Spurrier.   Saban took the LSU job because it was in an athlete-rich state without any major in-state recruiting competition (as opposed to Michigan State at the time).

For coaches like Tubs, it is about finding shopping venues for the wife these days.  I bet he never heard the end of it from his wife while coaching at Texas Tech.      Hence the move to Cincy.
