With a contract in the hands that helped him set receiving records at Alabama, Julio Jones is on his way to training camp with the Atlanta Falcons.

Jones signed a four-year contract worth a guaranteed $16.2 million on Thursday, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and then the first-round draft choice was able to attend a team meeting.

While I am THRILLED for Julio, a selfish part of me is wishing that he could've (would've) stayed at Bama one more year.  I know he did the best thing for himself, but can you imagine what it would be like this year with him and Mark?  Congrats to a wonderful young man!

You are absolutely right, Terri. That is selfish.

The incentive to stay in school is minor compared to the $$$.  Who needs an education when you can be a millionaire.  :sarcasm:

 Shocked

I'll never forget the contributions that JJ made to our team and the university. RTR. His college career was anything but easy and JJ played through the pain better than most. Take a look at Tyrone Prothro living on bank teller wages and see if your attitude toward JJ doesn't change. He can now pay someone to get his degree for him (lol).  Best wishes to a Bama great. RTR

From what I'm hearing from a friend that knows the family, Mama wanted Julio to stay in school, but they all pretty much live hand to mouth and julio wanted to provide a better life for his family, so he left early for the draft. Not painting a picture here of his family living in squaller, because they weren't. He just knew he could provide a better life for them.

You would have to be a complete idiot to turn down double digit millions simply because you want to finish your degree. I don't care if his Mama just won the Kentucky Derby.

Yeah, if he invests wisely, he is set for life at the age of 21 and he's able to help other members of the family. Plus, if he turns out to be a great receiver, down the road he can make even more money. I realy hope he's being steered to a solid finacial advisor who makes sure he's investing properly.

boogs

Julio making 16.2 million compared to former Auburn defensive star Nick Fairley signs deal with Detroit that's `right around $10 million' 4 year.

(I know only $10 million, like that's nothing).

Cam Newton, in agreeing to terms this week reported to be around $25 million.

Big gamble.

Newton = Young?

 Cool
