In its second road trip of the season, the No. 6 ranked Alabama gymnastics team beat No. 24 Kentucky, 196.700-195.625 in Memorial Coliseum in front of a crowd of 2,759 Friday night. The Crimson Tide climbs to 3-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in Southeastern Conference competition.
"That was a hard earned 196.7," UA head coach Dana Duckworth said. "We earned every tenth out there tonight."
Alabama swept the individual events. Sophomore Katie Bailey won the all-around with a 39.200, while juniors Carley Sims and Lauren Beers tied for first on the vault. Beers came back and won the uneven bars. Senior Kaitlyn Clark won the balance beam while junior Carley Sims won the floor exercise.
"We were able to get a lot of new faces out there tonight and when we had trouble who ever followed them was able to focus on the next second and keep moving forward," Duckworth said. "That's what we ask them to do."
