"INDIANAPOLIS -- The choice between Nick Fairley or Marcell Dareus could come down to performance.

The former Auburn and Alabama defensive tackles, respectively, are being considered as high first-round NFL draft picks. It had widely been reported that Fairley was the favorite to be the NFL draft's No. 1 pick."

I was confused at first.  Here is an article with the same title from Tidesprots.

"INDIANAPOLIS | In just one season, Auburn defensive tackle Nick Fairley emerged as arguably the best defensive player in college football and a potential top-five NFL draft pick.

The University of Alabama's Marcell Dareus did that essentially in just one game."

It's not as close as some think, actually Fairley is slipping down & Dareus solidified his stock and pushed it up with his drills showing strength & agility at his size, then his 10 yd split on the 40 is 1.66 SICK (the RB avg was the same #, think about that for a minute). Oh & BTW Fairley's 10 yd split was 1.78 at 280 & 6'2 LoL and most thought he was 6'5, 6'6. Fairley proved how raw he was & people saw Dareus looked like an animal with just as good footwork, speed, and quickness as the smaller DE's

He REALLY improved his stock at the Combine, he goes in the top 3 picks now easily & it would be a SHOCK if he falls past #3 & I think with Ron Rivera as the new HC of Carolina Panthers being a big time DL guy. He saw how impressive Dareus' showing was & I think come April 28th, he wants him some Dareus

I was surprised that some analysts had Fairley #1 in the draft. Angry
http://walterfootball.com/draft2011.php

Maybe that is a bit outdated, BUT GET REAL.  Fairley played well against OUR FRESHMAN.  He's good, but #1???

No doubt Fairley has dropped some during the past few days.  If Carolina picks him, they deserve to stay among the bottom feeders.

I expect them to take a chance and take Cam.  That's the chatter the past 2 days.

I just don't think with Ron Rivera being a former DL coach & what COULD be the top DL class in a decade that he takes a project QB at #1

Remember how bad $Cam KNEWton looked throwing short passes & VERY uncomfortable dropping 5 & 7 steps (sailing was all in his footwork & all his short throws flew 10 ft over WR's heads)

You also forget the POSSIBLE light all the info that could come out would cast on him (IF there's a roll call like some have hinted on these John Bond tapes & $Cam did know, then he lied to the NCAA).

I just think we see Dareus or a DE taken #1

In fairness, Fairley played balls out against every team this season. Marcel was a bit inconsistent, but I think a lot of it was due to coming off his injury. I think fully healthy, Marcel dominates even moreso than Fairley and without the dirty cheapshots.

I do think Marcel translates better to the NFL because of size, strength. Plus, Fairley won't get away with any of that cheap crap in the pros. He can't rule by fear like he did in college.

WHAT'S UP MTIDER!!

I agree, also the difference in schemes Fairley played versus schemes Dareus played that prepared Dareus more for a DL particularly on the inside & his body type is A LOT more impressive than Fairley, people thought Fairley's body type was impressive with his long arms b/c of how tall they thought he was (6'5" - 6'6") but when the combine height showed him as 6'2" & some odd it showed how compact he was for his body type & Dareus is a lot broader shoulders and lean, mean body type than Fairley who's a little more chubby body type & then you see how raw Fairley is on tape. He has huge hands & long arms & uses little to no arm movement off the release & shows quick feet, which is really what helped him become so dominant & good lean to get around the edge, but needs a wider base, which is coachable, so basically he has all the tools to be good just poor coaching & technique & that's why he's so raw. You put on Dareus' tape & he knows how to use his tree trunk arms & is a fierce & violent attacker off a snap (why Sapp likes him so much) that overpowers a lot of OL & with his wide frame it'll still work in the NFL & yesterday at the combine he showed how quick he was & how good his feet were, it's almost like a finished product for the NFL right now which is why it was so easy to see at the combine.

Hope you're right, but there seems a lot of love for Fairley at the Combine.  I can't see it.

Part of it is the discussion about Fairley "playing big in the big games".  He was fortunate against us to get an O-line without our best lineman.  Then he played USCe and Oregon. Tongue  Give me a break.

CNS pushes his players to be the best they can be. Marcel was ready for this and Fairley was not. I have to say  to recruits if you want to be prepared for the NFL you better come let our coaches train you. RTR!
