NCAA proposal could make college players rich

In an effort to further revolutionize collegiate athletics, for good or ill, conferences representing the most powerful schools in the NCAA proposed changes on Friday that, if voted into legislation, could set student-athletes on paths towards something resembling professionalism. In other words, the Derrick Henrys of college sports could soon be making money, a lot of stinking money.

In other words get ready to say goodbye to college football the way that we all know it and love it.

Hard for me to understand how this would work.  Probably will be a zillion questions on what's acceptable.

But here's one:  Suppose a guy sets up a company to manage his personal appearances.  Then his co signs a deal with a car dealer and as comp he gets a new vehicle + $$$ for each personal appearance.  Is that OK?  Are personal appearances non-football activity?

I think the cheaters are already doing this to some degree; Johnny Manziel, Crablegs Winston, probably Scam Newton.  It's a legal mess for the NCAA, gets them into antitrust issues, forbidding players to profit, while at the same time collecting royalties on player images.

I think that is the exact scenario they have in mind.

Now add this twist.  What if a certain head coach has equity in the dealership?

What a mess this would be.

I Sort of like this proposal for basketball.  These kids can go one and done in BB, and often lack any idea where they might stand (or not stand) in an NBA draft.

—The NCAA is proposing the idea of allowing basketball players to remove their names from the NBA draft 10 days after the conclusion of the NBA draft combine. Per the NCAA, "it also would allow students to enter the NBA draft multiple times without jeopardizing eligibility and permit students to participate in the combine and one tryout per NBA team per year."

This proposal could potentially change the quality of college basketball for the better while also allowing a student-athlete to make the best decision possible for his future. Many believe the one-and-done rule has detracted from the college game.

Yeah I think that in every sport the athletes should be able to enter the draft and see where they stand with the ability to decline the offer and come back to school if they don't like the terms.

Considering these kids can't hire agents, they are mostly picking blind.
