Well, here we go, one more time.

Quote
It's hard to say exactly where Nick Saban's Alabama falls on that spectrum traveled by Urban Meyer's Florida Gators, Pete Carroll's USC Trojans and so many others before them. But make no mistake, what happened here at Bryant-Denny Stadium late Saturday night in No. 11 Ole Miss' 43-37 victory was the clearest sign yet this unbelievable epoch in Alabama football history is much closer to the end than the beginning.

Not because it happened, but because by now it wasn't much of a surprise.

The press has been chomping at the bit for a few years now to predict the demise of Bama football. But it hasn't happened.

What I think has happened is that the competition in the SEC has gotten stiffer, and Bama missed on some QB recruits who either transferred early (P. Sims and Ely), didn't pan out or need more time to develop (our outstanding group of young QBs.)  Bama hasn't had a mostly mistake-free QB the past two years, and that is what has hurt us in some big games.

The kicking game & secondary play has made a hefty contribution, too.

OT in our day there was only one way to coach that and it usually worked. Keep him on the bench and put somebody else in there. RTR!

That is about all you can do.  Both kickoff guys and are punt returner have been known to fumble on returns.  If I remember correctly it was our current punt returner who was returner kicks last year and fumbled a kick off in the Ole Miss game that ultimately cost us the game.

So that makes 2 years in a row that Ole Miss has beaten us, and in both cases we lost the game because we fumbled a kickoff.
