Should we get rid of CBW or let him stick around for another year?
What is your call?

I've let my feelings known for years, he's an overall bad special teams coach, it's been out there for all to see. Why do you ask, you know how I feel?

 Huh?

Yep, Williams needs to work on his tackling and coverage skills before the next game.

You could have drove a semi-truck down the middle of the field on the UF punt return. I know the players are coached to stay in their lanes. That was execution and not coaching.

How do players learn to execute and proper tackling techniques, it's called coaching. In other words, Shula & DuBose failed miserably because the players did not execute properly and they were really good coaches, right? I assume all of you will campaign to have Shula rehired after Saban retires, correct? Would appreciate an answer to see who wants Shula back as head coach. I await your enthusiastic support for a hire Shula campaign.

By the way, I want all you big Anthony Grant supporters to get on the bandwagon to bring him back, too. Remember how most of you continued to support him for YEARS even though it was obvious he was incompetent? Keep me informed on the progress of your efforts to bring back Shula & Grant.

That was the first punt return since 2008. (I heard that yesterday I assume it is correct.) Our punt and kick-off coverage has been good all year. Outside of that one play what is your concern with our Special Teams?

Special Teams is much more than punt returns for TD's. It's the whole spectrum, punt/kickoff coverage, punt/kickoff returns, FG kicking, punting, punt blocks, FG blocks, PAT kicking, tackling, blocking, execution, onside kicks/coverage, & more. Remember when we could not kick the ball into the end zone on kickoffs? Everything can not always be quantified, like execution, tackling, blocking, obvious confusion with wasted time outs on the field or sidelines for a punt or FG attempt, too many men on the field, etc. It's not easy to identify like wins/losses, points scored, number of interceptions, etc. You haven't forgotten the Kick Six by Auburn in 2013 have you? That was a huge and obvious Special Teams failure. Most problems aren't that obvious, that was an extreme (and fluke) play, but it still happened.

My observations over the years is that the Special Teams have been at many times, confused, chaotic, had poor coverage, poorly executed, and so on. That's coaching. Even the game announcers have observed this over the years.  Everyone wants to applaud Williams when the Special Teams does a good job, but if a punt is returned for a TD, it's the players fault. You can not have it both ways, coaches praised for good plays, players blamed for bad plays. This brings me back to my sarcastic response, was Shula & Grant really good coaches but the players failed them/ For some reason, no one will answer that simple question. I appreciate your thoughtful question and your approach to reasoning.

Don't know who's to blame but, for a good while Bama has had good kick off and punt returns nullified by block in the back penalties.

Get the number of the player(s) and you will know who is responsible. Wink

I would not mind having Shula back as a HC IF he puts a staff together who can coach and run their departments. He can only coach or be the HC but he can't do both. I think he will make a good HC in the NFL someday. RTR!

Another excellent example of something that happens on kick coverage which is not listed as a ST stat. Thanks for the example.
