Robinson's attorney: "There are a lot of defenses to all of this. The government does still have the burden to prove that they knew [the firearm] was stolen, or should have known. But if they can prove they didn't know, then that's an affirmative defense. The district attorney office here [in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana] is very good about trying to keep somebody from having a felony on their record, so it's imminently possible this could be worked out to either a misdemeanor or possibly a dismissal."

MD, I thought the same thing the instant I saw these tweets.  These guys are making excuses for breaking the law.  Whether you agree with the law or not, it's still the law and if you're going to break it, then be prepared to pay a price.

CNS said this will be a learning experience for the whole team, and he is evermore right about that.

Sounds to me like these guys are in serious legal trouble.  I will not be surprised if they have to sit out half the season, maybe all of it.  Or they may end up in jail for a while.

Like I said earlier, this is not going to end well.

Bail, many times, is set in accordance with the odds of the person being a flight risk. I wouldn't read too much into that.

Yep, plus it's not like he can disappear. The problem is, he's in a parked in a car, it's 2:30 am, the smell of marijuana is prevalent, he has controlled drugs, & a stolen gun in his car. He wasn't there reading the Bible.

This was Robinson's car?  That might make it tougher to defend, the gun was under the passenger seat.

Defend??  Anybody STUPID enough to have a gun and drugs in a car, then wait in a public park for the police at 2:30AM, shouldn't be defended.  WTH??

Not defending their stupid actions, sitting in a public park with guns and drugs at 2:30 a.m.  However, the lawyer in me immediately thinks about how one might defend these kids in court, with the most serious charge being the felony, possession of stolen gun.  There are a lot of elements to that charge which the state must prove, starting with possession (gun was under a car seat), though perhaps more important here might be knowledge.

Just hard to imagine anyone I know personally being THAT STUPID.  How can we deal with such a bunch of kids who would put themselves in such a situation?  It's not like they were enticed into it by some lovely lassie; they were just screwing around at 2:30AM!!

Court date for the big dummy.

The arraignment hearing for Alabama star left tackle Cam Robinson and reserve safety Hootie Jones has been set for June 16 at 1:30 p.m. in Monroe, Louisiana, according to the Ouachita Parish District Attorney's office.

Something is very fishy here.

Alabama junior Cam Robinson, one of the most talented offensive tackles in college football, and Crimson Tide defensive back Laurence "Hootie" Jones will not be prosecuted on charges stemming from their arrests last month in their hometown of Monroe, La.

The district attorney declined to prosecute the case due to insufficient evidence, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapport.
