Nebraska coach Bob Devaney really didn’t like what Joe Paterno had to say in a 1972 Washington Post article. He complained to Paul Bear Bryant at Alabama, and Bryant agreed with him.

Paterno had some good points.  Teams that had less than 20% of their players graduating on-time obviously were not requiring their players to be students.

Also, I'd sure have hated to be the one to have to read Coach Bryant's notes and type his letters.  Calling that chicken scratch might insult a few chickens.
