I think it's not the stick, but the final link on the chain (where it meet the eye-bolt).  That's what I recall.  Somebody look it up.  I've got to start working.

This was a TD run for BAMFTR. There is another image of this run from the endzone showing ball touching inside of pylon and TR foot has yet to touch out of bounds.

Didn't he step out of bounds before the ball crossed the line?

Well football is known as a game of inches. Sometimes you don't get the call and your mad. Sometimes you get the call and your happy. Sometimes you get the call and you even question the Ref's call. Which one would you rather have? RTR!

I thought it was a bad spot to begin with. Then I saw daylight between the ball and the stick. I think State got screwed. However, you can not let your team be in a position that the ref's judgement call can determine the outcome of the game.

I was also surprised state did not call a time out and get the spot reviewed by the replay offical.

Maybe this is the time I've awaited for years.

*** SOAPBOX MOMENT ***

Why not use lasers?  It would be simple to use a laser to pinpoint the tip of the ball across the field, and use a right angle to line up along the sidelines.  A simple system could be in pacle in hours for every stadium.  Heck, I have several laser tools, including squares and levels.  Shoot the laser across the field after the ref puts the ball in pacle, then measure 10 yards (to the millimeter) ahead.  Why not stop this nonsense of a ref's foot (left or right foot?) followed by a chain gang running out?  It's probably the least effective part of football that remains to be modernized.  I really expected MIT or one of the other engineering programs to introduce it 20 years ago.

Sorry.  Embarrassed

Laser wont work on fields that aren't flat.  If the ball is spotted on the far hash the laser won't make it.

They could have the laser elevated a little bit.  I dont think the fall off is more than 1/2 foot or so.  Or they could put them on either side with a slightly up angle.
