I am surprised this isnt more common with plane racing.

Quote
He said he did not have any information on the number of injured, but FoxReno.com cited an unnamed source putting the death toll at two so far, with about 30 people injured. KOLO, citing fire department sources, reported as many as 60 people were injured, including about 30 in critical condition.

The era of events without photos is behind us.  Incredible pics.  Prayers for families of those killed.

I saw that last night on the news, just terrible. You're right Chech - Pictures of everything nowadays. Here is a video of that C17 Globemaster crashing in Alaska in 2010.

I don't remember hearing about that C17 crash.  The system I work on has a size requirement to be transportable (roll on/roll off) by C17 so I'm somewhat famililar with that plane.  Just saw one landing in Huntsville last week.

Sounds like the most obvious cause of the crash was a failure (loss) of a portion of the tail section.

The flutter of losing the control surface also explains the strange noise.

True.
I saw an interview this morning with an FAA investigator.  He wouldn't acknowledge the damaged tail section, just saying they would sift through the wreckage for evidence, blah blah blah.  He came across sounding like he wanted to spend as much time on site as possible, rather than discuss the most salient evidence to date.

Needs to last into ski season.
