TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Tom Murphy, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Razorback beat reporter (and former Press-Register Alabama beat reporter), has agreed to answer questions throughout the week leading to No. 14 Arkansas visiting No. 3 Alabama.

So let's get it started.

Q: Tom, Ryan Mallett was the big concern for Alabama entering last season's Arkansas game. Now that he is gone is there a worthy replacement capable of driving the offense?

A: Tyler Wilson (6-3, 220 pounds) has been OK through 2 1/2 games, but he's not yet approaching Mallett's level in precision down-field strikes or pre-snap savvy. Wilson has also left his head and body open for some shots this season, which would not be wise vs. Alabama. Right now, he's No. 20 in the country in pass efficiency, but that was against an FCS school, one of the nation's worst FBS teams in New Mexico and Troy. He's sitting on a 5-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio right now, which is just so-so for a Bobby Petrino quarterback, and a .686 completion percentage, which is fine. Wilson has the tools to become an above-average SEC starter, but his career with the reins is just really beginning.

More on Wilson: Through three games the junior is 59-for-86 passing for 822 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions. Last season, he appeared in six games logging few statistics except for his role in a 65-43 loss to Auburn. Wilson was 225-for-34 passing for 332 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. Wilson came in on relief on an injured Mallet in the second quarter. His performance made his just the ninth quarterback in Arkansas history to throw for 300 yards in a game.

I remember when Wilson came in against the Bran and he did a great job, but lets look at it closer.

The Barn and Defense don't really go together under Chezzy (although I thought he was suppose to be a D coach). And the DB's for Auburn compaired to the DB's at Bama, not even close.

Npw the one thing I will give Arky is a strong OL. So the question will be how much pressure can we get on Wilson to make him mess up.

Hope we kill em, but my hart says it will be a classic close game.

Green Bay would be dead meat with a completion total like that. That means on each attempt he is completing passes to 6.5 receivers.  Wink
