Name the new Big 12 Conference

It is difficult to guess how many teams will be left in what is currently known as the Big 12 Conference by the time some more of the remaining schools depart.  There is always the possibility that they add in some other "little" schools to take the place of the ones that are leaving.

Regardless of the outcome, having the number of teams in the conference name is just foolish with the current environment of conference realignment.  The Big 10 actually had 11 members for many years after Penn State joined, and now they have 12.  The Big 12 on the other hand used to be the Big 8, but then joined forces with some more schools to make it 12.  But now this year they only have 10 teams since Nebraska moved to the Big 10 and Colorado left for the PAC-10, I mean the PAC-12.

Confused yet?  Yes, that is correct, the Big 10 has 12 schools right now and the Big 12 has 10 schools.  How silly is that?  Even worse, as it stands right now the Big 12 will only have 9 schools next year with the departure of Texas A&M.

I have to give the PAC-12 credit for changing their name to reflect the new number.  That is much better than the way the Big 10 and Big 12 handled things.  It is still a flawed strategy though.  Remember the Big 8?  They changed their name to the Big 12, and now look at the predicament they are in.

Contrast this to the SEC.  They were the SEC before Georgia Tech left, and they are still the SEC after Georgia Tech left.  Then Arkansas and South Carolina were added, and the name is still SEC.  See how that works?  Now with Texas A&M coming into the league, there is still no need to change the name.  And when that inevitable 14th team is revealed, there will still be no need to change the name.  Going to 16 teams or even more?  No problem.  As you can see, this logic will hold true regardless of how many teams are in the future SEC.

So clearly, at this point a name change is in order for the remnants of the conference formerly known as the Big 12.  Let's take it upon ourselves to offer some helpful name suggestions to the new conference commissioner.  Post your ideas below.

I say let it stay the same @ Big 12. They will pick up some schools such as Rice or Utep or somebody to join and keep it at 12 schools. That way Texas, Okla. and possible OK. ST. will stay the powers that be in sports.  RTR!
