In a 11-4 vote, the City Council decided to remove the 65-foot-tall monument from its location in the heart of the city

Just one more step towards socialism. They are doing their best to remove history.

The person who had the most slaves was George Washington, but I don't see many of his statues coming down.

True that, OT. What these idiots don't realize was that the Civil War was not fought over slavery. History has been skewed over the last 20 years to make it seem so. It was fought over states' rights.

Maybe the little old ladies in the United Daughter of the Confederacy should sued for damages like they did at Vanderbilt. The initial cost of the monument plus interest on that amount since 1897 would amount to a tidy sum.

Right you are, 2.  When the war began, Congress passed a resolution saying they were not fighting against slavery. Lincoln first said the same thing, announcing it was fought to keep the Union together.  In fact, the border states on the Union side were allowed to keep their slaves until months after the war ended. YouTube has interviews with old Confederate veterans who said slavery was not the reason.

Yep. And I think they are the only ones standing firm on this. I never would have thought it, but even SC took down the Confederate flag at the State House.

The most amazing thing is the Mississippi state flag that includes the Confederate battle flag. A few years ago, they asked if people wanted it to remain, and they voted overwhelmingly to keep it.

I remember that. The media seemed to be incredulous about that, so they interviewed a bunch of the black citizens to get their opinion about it. Most of them couldn't have cared less.

So why did Ole Miss kill off the Rebels and Col. Reb and "Dixie" and the Confederate flag.  But keep "Ole Miss" which was the title given to the leading female slave who worked in the house?

Exactly. They would rather have a landshark team, whatever that is.
