-- There had been some questions early in the week about whether Taulia Tagovailoa could receive playing time with is brother, Tua, injured. Asked if Taulia could receive playing time, Nick Saban said Monday that he will be Mac Jones’ backup. It is a tiny sample size, but in routes versus air during Wednesday’s practice, Jones looked sharper. He dropped a ball into Jerry Jeudy’s hands down the right sideline; on the next play, Taulia appeared to overthrow his receiver. Taulia also hit a receiver in his legs during a crossing pattern, but again, that was just a tiny sliver of the entire practice.

-- Chris Owens remained at backup center and wore No. 84 during practice, the eligible number he donned in Saturday’s game against Tennessee when he entered as an extra offensive lineman. Landon Dickerson still ran with the first-team offense.

-- Byron Young continued to run with the first-team defensive line, which has become a consistent sight in recent weeks over Justin Eboigbe.

About LSU's win over Aubrun:
“No opinion. They have a great team, they’re a very good team and they’ve got a good defensive team. We’re really not going to start LSU until Thursday. Players get stale if you work on a certain team for too long." ...

On how big Saturday’s start was for Mac Jones moving forward...
“I think it was good for his confidence. I think he’ll learn a lot from it. Even though we were very pleased with the things that he did in the game, there are obviously always things that we made mistakes on that we can improve. ....”

On where Alabama’s defense has improved the most…
“I think we’re trying to make progress. I think when we’ve had Terrell Lewis and Anfernee (Jennings) both on the field, it’s really helped the pass rush. We’ve played those two guys together a lot, especially in nickel, so we’ve been able to affect the quarterback a lot more when those two guys are playing. ... And as a team, we still get far too many penalties, too many undiscipline-type penalties that we need to clean up. ...”

On what the approach will be with Tua Tagovailoa when he returns to practice...
“We’ll just have to see what he can do and evaluate his mobility and his performance. I can’t really predict any of those things. Just got to let it happen and see how it goes. ...”

-- Safety Jared Mayden, ...was practicing, along with defensive back Shyheim Carter, who sprained his knee Saturday.

-- Linebacker/special-teams ace Ale Kaho was practicing ... with a cast. [BROKEN HAND]

-- Guard Evan Neal (groin) was ... only holding a blocking pad during individual drills. ... Landon Dickerson, who “got hit on the knee” and was replaced by Chris Owens in the game. ...

-- Running back Najee Harris, ... was also on the field Tuesday.

-- Kicker Will Reichard (hip flexor) and tight end Miller Forristall (throat) were not spotted.

LSU did not have a handful of starters present as the team practiced Tuesday afternoon for the first time since it beat Auburn.

Outside linebacker K'Lavon Chaisson, safety Grant Delpit, right tackle Austin Deculus, nose tackle Tyler Shelvin and tight end Thaddeus Moss were missing from the brief open portion of LSU's unpadded practice....

There's something else going on with LSU players.  At least one (LB named Thornton) was suspended this week.  Two others were mentioned as doubtful for "undisclosed" reasons the same day.
