Hey Chech, how often to the wolves interact with bears?  Also, when this happens, what is the typical outcome?

Daily when there's an elk or bison carcass.  I've posted videos of it on FB.
The bears are more powerful, but the wolves are quicker.  Usually the bear gets its fill, unless the wolves can harass it enough to drive it away.  They'll bite the bear's butt.  If the bear chases one, the others rush in and eat.

Monday June 8, 2020.

Snow, sleet, and light rain today.  But what a day.  We watched 13 adult wolves parade to the creek this afternoon.  And I watched grizzly and black bears.  Here's a sample:

Late this afternoon, with sleet turning to snow, this rainbow formed over Lamar Canyon.

That rainbow is beautiful. By the way that you captured it symmetrically it almost looks like it is just a halo effect in your lens though.  I know it isn't but it does somewhat look like it.  Great pics. Again...  Wink

Tuesday June 9, 2020.

COLD AGAIN.  I saw 2 Mollie's Pack Wolves cross the road at Pebble Creek at 4:30am (in my headlights).

At 5am we had frost on our scopes, and they fogged badly.  But the wolves stayed bedded and in dens until the sun emerged anyhow.  Good puppy show about 7:30.  Lots to see all day (badger, coyote, grizzlies).  A grizzly walked right past the sage den about noon.  It didn’t harm any puppies.  Whew.  They dig dens up and eat puppies sometimes.

THREE DOG DAY: fox, wolf, and coyote.  WOOT!  Dancing

Grizzly that walked past the den.

How are you able to identify the individual wolves Chech?  Seems like you know every member of each wolf family by name (number).

Color, size, location, collar or not.

For instance, this is Wolf 907F of the Junction Pack.  I photographed her today to show her collar (looks black).  Those with collars have telemetry signals, unique to each.  You see she has a collar and is gray.  This pack has only 3 gray wolves, and 2 have collars.  Her niece is 228F (F for female), and has more dark on her back.  I don't have the telemetry equipment, so I have to learn each one's appearance.

Wednesday June 10, 2020:

Not as cold today, and was sunny, so we sat in lawn chairs and watched the show.  Puppies came out about 7am and played for an hour.  Some of the yearlings wrestled with them, tugged their necks, and got nips in return.  Fun stuff.  Later, about 2:30 a hunting party of 9 adults went to search for elk.  We'll know tomorrow if they had luck.

Hunting party.  They walked through flower meadows, then up into the hills.

This badger spotted another in its territory today, and it raced across a meadow to attack it.  We saw the sage shaking and heard loud squeals and raccoon-like squawks.  This one came out unscathed.  The other ran away.

Thanks for the explanation about how the wolves are identified.  That is pretty cool. I'd also like to know how they are able to live-trap them in order to put collars on them.  As intelligent as wolves are that could prove extremely difficult.

How cool would it have been to be able to watch the two badgers fight?  All really great pics Chech.  Thanks.

I'm guessing the one pictured is from Wisconsin. The one that ran away was from Michigan.
