When asked about the Heisman, Trent Richardson said, "I try not to buy into it, man.  I try to stay focused and just take one day at a time for real, and make sure I’m doing everything I can to get better.”

Better?

Richardson isn’t counting votes for the Heisman, but he’s pretty confident Ingram’s former-winner ballot wouldn’t count against him.

Lady Friend asked me last night, "Do you think Ingram's Heisman will keep Richardson from winning it?"

It's a good question.  I'm sure the voters would like to give it to a scholar from Stanford or anyone from Wisconsin.  But if Alabama keeps winning, and if Richardson stays healthy, I think he has an excellent chance.  There's a lot of jealousy out there among the Heisman voters.

I thought it was Andrew Luck's to lose this year, but there is chatter about Russell Wilson now being 'The Man'.  Surely the voters wouldn't give it to a QB who shopped his services, then transferred to a top program.   Shocked

If Wilson has a good year I think he would be the man to beat (Big 10 media leverage). On the other hand, If Richardson can continue to put up big numbers and bama wins the NC, I think he has a great chance to win it. ESPN likes Bama and we know about ESPN and the Heisman Trophy.

Wilson transferred from NCS after not being welcomed back for his senior season by his coach.  Does that tell you anything?  That alone could disqualify him on some ballots.

Unfortunately the NC won't come into play since it happens later.  I think many Heisman votes in the past would have come out differently if they would wait until after all the bowl games are finished.  A lot of those candidates don't really see that much serious competition until they get to their bowl game.

I am afraid the rest of the country does not want to see three Heisman's in a row awarded to the SEC and state of Alabama.

The idiots shouldn't have given it to a known cheater last year.

This.  I think the thought of 3 years in a row to the state and southern football in general will be a more powerful deterrent for voters than Ingram's alone.

He seems to be a kid of good character, unlike that other QB.  The reason he was not welcome back is because he was participating in minor league baseball and not offseason workouts with NCS's football team.

TR has proved himself in the hearts of many writers. Eddie George supports him and now the ESPN bunch is beginning to support him. I think he has an excellent chance to win it. Especially if we win the NCG. I know it is before that but if we are undefeated and headed there he will be in NY. RTR!

I know.  The story in the NY Times summed it up:
Quote
Why would a quarterback whose high character matched his production not be welcomed back. In a telephone interview, N.C. State Coach Tom O’Brien’s icy tone summed up the awkward situation.

“We’re very happy with Mike Glennon going forward,” O’Brien said of his new starting quarterback. “It wasn’t about individuals, it was a decision about team and the team going forward and the commitment to the program.”

You're right, what I meant was getting to the NCG. Sorry about that.
