Who gets fired first? The natives in LSU land are very restless. How restless are folks in Crimson Tide land about Pete Golding, our lost defensive coordinator? I would enjoy hearing from my fellow fans. I hope h.s. coach saw the game Saturday.

Latest stuff on Orgeron.

Quote
The most iconic moment of Ed Orgeron’s tenure at LSU came in 2017 during his first full season as head coach, shortly after a competitive 24-10 loss to Alabama.

"We comin'," Orgeron shouted in his gravely Cajun accent when asked if that game had laid the groundwork for future glory. "We comin’ and we ain’t backin’ down."

Quote
But now, Coach O, they're coming for you. The team that catapulted you to the mountaintop is long gone. And your own fans have had enough of how you squandered the momentum from 2019 and brought LSU to a level of mediocrity we haven’t seen in more than a decade.

The Misery Index.

Quote
But whether it was pass protection, settling for field goals in the red zone, allowing a kickoff return for a touchdown or struggling on defense at the end, Alabama just couldn’t take control of the game and lost to a thoroughly inferior opponent. That’s just not something Alabama fans have experienced very often, and if there’s one thing Alabama fans don’t enjoy, it’s watching an ordinary football team.

Last night it wasn't just the D.  The Bama team was like....somebody kidnapped the entire team and replaced them with exact duplicates who didn't know how to play football.   And the mistakes started on the 3rd or 4th play when Malachi Moore lost his mind and attacked the aTm player with his helmet.  What waaas he thinking?

I think everyone, including CNS, has seen enough from Golding to know he's not the guy to run Bama's D.  I think CNS knows he has to make an impactful change quickly but he'll probably do so behind the scenes until the season is over.  Or at least I hope he does.

As for Coach O, if he makes it through this week he 'll probably be around at least through the Bama game.  But LSU will want it to be known before the end of the season that the HC job is open.  I wonder if they will quietly reach out to Billy Napier.  They could do worse.

Agree with your assessment on most points. Napier will definitely be approached. I wonder if LSU will use all the football sex scandals to justify not making a huge payout to Coach O? The last few minutes of the A&M game the defense played and looked totally confused & lost. They looked bad most of the game but those last few minutes were telling for me.

Possible replacements for Pete Golding:

Jeremy Pruitt
Charlie Strong
Will Muschamp

Any other ideas?

More information about Pete Golding situation. Very interesting, suggest you read it.

Quote
Another consideration: Pete Golding has had his hands on multiple five-star recruits at all levels of the defense, and a large majority of them haven’t panned out. Players earn the coveted fifth star when they’re likely to be a future first-round NFL Draft pick. That’s why there are never more than 32 five-stars in any given recruiting class. So, what’s the issue? Why can’t Pete Golding design a defense to play to the strengths and minimize the weaknesses?

Quote
When watching the Texas A&M game again, the defense in the second half was much improved. Who engineered this vast amelioration? I’m under the impression, and have good reason to believe that Nick Saban and Charles Kelly relieved Golding of his defensive play-calling duties following the halftime break.

Don't know anything about the author or website. He may be just making wild speculation about who called the defensive signals in the 2nd half of the A&M game.

We started this thread musing about the futures of Coach O and Golding.  Whatever happens (or doesn't) with Coach O will be out in the open.  But what happens with Golding is more likely to be done behind the scenes until the season is over.

We don't know if Golding was relieved of play-calling duties last Sat, but it wouldn't surprise me if he were.  For my 2-cents, I don't think a reporter associated with USA Today would write a story like this without having some sources who have confirmed what he is saying.

So if Kelly is calling the D signals, that will come out over the course of the next few games.  And that would (I hope) signal the end of Golding's time at Bama.

I was reading about Coach Charles Kelly, he's the Associate Defensive Co-ordinator & Safety's coach. He has an extensive background in coaching defenses. It would be logical to have him call the D signals.

What about Bill O'Brien?  The offense went 6 possessions from the 1Q to the 3Q with 3 points.   The offense also disappeared against Florida.

We all need to face that college football is no longer a game where you can expect to allow under 20 points every single week.  Or even 30 for that matter. Some weeks, you're going to have to outscore.  The D held A&M to under 400 yards.  While it wasn't a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, we were also working with an inexperienced 3rd string LBer forced into a starting role, and lost possibly our best secondary player to an early targeting penalty.

Not to mention, Alabama lost two turnovers and gave up a special teams score.

I would very much like Pruitt or Strong. Pruitt may be better because he's familiar with the Saban defense. But will be wind with with a "show cause" attached to his name?
We need somebody. The Pete Golding experiment has no panned out.

No doubt offensive play calling was questionable. A dropped TD pass in the end zone by Latu was not O'briens fault or the dropped first down pass by Billingsley at a critical time of the game. I feel like O'brien is biding his time to be a college head coach again and even return to Penn State.

Orgeron out at LSU.

Quote
LSU and coach Ed Orgeron, 60, have reached a separation agreement that will result in Orgeron not returning to coach the Tigers following the 2021 season, according to Sports Illustrated's Ross Dellenger. Orgeron, who won a national championship at LSU in 2019, is expected to finish the remainder of the season as the team's coach.
