BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Missouri demonstrated it's ready to publicly dance with the SEC. But will enough SEC presidents agree to the overture?

Two sources familiar with the SEC's discussions about Missouri told The Birmingham News Wednesday that as of now it appears that a majority of SEC presidents and chancellors would support Missouri's application. But the sources said that majority falls just short of the nine votes required to add a new member.

One source said there's a group of presidents that wants to sit tight, believing the SEC can do better than Missouri and that No. 14 should come from the East. According to both sources, Alabama wants to look East and not risk losing its annual game against Tennessee, while Auburn favors adding Missouri and moving to the Eastern Division.

University presidents don't have to drive from Gainesville, say, to Columbia, Missouri for a weekend.

Aubs can move to the eastern division at any time.  "Why wait, you idiots?"
Clearly Texas A&M will be added to the west.

Yor're right. They just jump on the school's jet and are there in an hour.

Want to "look east" instead?  Let 'em try to fly into Morgantown on one of those cold, foggy nights.

Hard to get a room in Morgantown.  Teams and fans base out of Pittsburgh and commute in and out of Morganhole for the game.

Apparently Bama has little recruiting or TV interest in Missouri, and also doesn't want to let the Barn out of a tough SEC West.

Maybe they should move to the east and we stop playing them every year.  That would be just fine with me.  We should send them off with a proper beat down this year just in case that happens.

The boogers may move east but they will not let go of playing Bama every year. The Bama game is what sells their season tickets. Even the boogers like to watch Bama play.

I'm sure that there will be a coup of Presidents that will hold the SEC hostage over who the 14th member will be, whether it's on the East side of the SEC or the West side.. I can see where the schools in the East want the next team to come from that region because the cost to play that school will be cheaper on them. On the other hand the schools in the West side of the conference feel the same way about getting another school from the western region so that it will be cheaper on them.

Now, how will they ever get nine Presidents to agree on another school. There will always be some schools that will have to travel farther than others regardless of where they are located. Do you think they can ever get nine folks to agree on what is best for the conference?

Getting nine folks to agree on what is best for the conference rather than what is best for their school is the big question that will have to be answered and I don't think they are anywhere close to that happening.

I always thought Clemson would be a better fit for the East. RTR!

I just can't see Mizzou coming into SEC.  The 'pro' arguments aren't that compelling.  I hope SEC just sits tight for a while.  If Presidents are gridlocked, that's good.

It is hard to get excited about a middle of the pack school that was rejected by the Big-10. As far as there TV markets, they are more excited by baseball and the NFL. Florida St or Clemson looks to be a better fit.
