However, this wizard's kingdom isn't as powerful as they would like to be and they coveted the Eagle kingdom's wealth when it came to hiring mercenaries.

Quote
Many of their enemies proclaim the "Eagles of War" to have some strange, mystic magic that gives them unlimited luck. Other enemies claim it is the wealth of the kingdom's nobles that give them their strength.

Quote
North of the red and black kingdom is a kingdom of warrior chickens. Their king is said to be past his prime and rules there only for the benefit of the royal golf course. His crown is unmistakable and he often throws it to the ground in disgust because of the ineptitude of his army's general, Sir Garcia.

Sir Garcia is known to unwillingly aid the foes of the warrior chickens by throwing his weapons to his foes.

Quote
It is said the sorceror's magic hat gives him his powers. His love of edible grass is also a great source of energy for his magic.

Good stuff.  Laughing

Thanks Old Tider. E-cred*

I enjoyed the read.

Thanks, Coach Hank. It is a funny new perspective on our "kingdoms," even if we are the barbarians.

Not to be a nerd or anything, but the entire column was about how the SEC was like Conan the Barbarian, not Lord of the Rings. I didn't see a single reference in there to the Lord of the Rings. IMO, if the SEC is like Lord of the Rings, then Miles would be Sauron because of his dark wizard powers, and LSU would be the strong Orcs. Malzahn would be Saruman, and Auburn would be the short ugly orcs that no one respects. I guess Alabama would be the elves since we're the most powerful SEC team with the longest tradition of winning. I don't know about the rest of the SEC. I'll have to think about it. I guess this does make me a nerd.  Wink

The resemblance is uncanny.  Be on the lookout for him to start greeting Tammy with "Hello my precious."

I read the books as a teenager, but never saw the movies.  I have forgotten a lot of the names and details.

I think the trilogy was required reading for students at UA during the late 60s.  All of the students read them, and everyone talked analogies.  I never saw the movies either.  Some movies about books just don't interest me.
