TUSCALOOSA, Alabama -- The ball is snapped, the opposing quarterback takes a knee, the clock hits 0:00 and an official blows a whistle and waves his hands.

It's halftime at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Million Dollar Band is ready to entertain. Fans head to restrooms and concession stands for soft drinks and hot dogs.

The Alabama football team heads to its locker room for perhaps the most important 20 minutes of the night.

This is a time for refreshments for the players, too.

"We get a Gatorade when we walk in," senior center William Vlachos said. "We get a little snack, like a Rice Krispies treat or something, if you want it."

I think that is code for "CNS chewed our  butts out and told us to get out there and PLAY BALL!" LOL

I've heard CNS get on his "soapbox" a couple of times and I can tell you, he has everyones attention. When he has said what he wants to say it can get kind of funny then. He will start stammering around and mumbling sort of and ask who the heck had the stupid question or made the stupid remark anyway, then he cracks a smile and starts rolling his eyes as he looks around the room. I just love it when he does get on the "soapbox".

I don't think Coach Bryant was that bombastic. A few grumbles and growls probably did it.

One of my favorite 1/2 time stories, about Coach Bryant. Bama was losing, people who were there said CPB was "peeling the paint off the walls." He was also pacing. When he looked down our infamous 5'?" WR Joey Jones was sitting there. So he picked up Joey by the shoulder pads and yelled, Joey I haven't seen you do a God %^&# thing yet!!!"
Joey's reply was, "Well coach, that might be cause you have not put me in the game yet, sir."
Bear let go of Joey's pads.  Cheesy

Love a good Coach Bryant story. I probably don't know as many as some of the guys on here who have (COUGH, COUGH) more experience than I, but I think a thread about favorite CPB stories would be pretty cool.

One I heard (and I think I will need confirmation on this) is during halftime of some game (could have been the Viles) we were behind by a number of points. Coach comes in and instead of chewing them out, he tells the players "Alright, we got'em where we want'em!" Players went out and whipped them in the second half.

I can't quite remember this exactly like it was but I'll do my best.

When Jim Lampley first started his career in broadcasting,he was the first or one of the first to be on the sideline during the game doing interviews during the game. Bama was playing and had tried a play before the half that failed miserably and when Coach Bryant was walking to the dressing room at the half Lampley stopped him for an interview. He asked Coach Bryant who's idea was it to call that play that failed so bad and why did they call it. Coach Bryant looked at him in a mean way and you could see the hair raise up on the back of his neck and he responded "I am the head coach and I called the play and I called the play because I wanted to" and walked off. The announcers in the booth, it could have been Keith Jackson not sure, got one big laugh out of that and they say that is what got Lampley so popular that early in his career.
