Quote
I’m not sold on the idea of meddling with Jarrett Lee as the quarterback after how well he has played for the first half of the season, but if there is a reason to give Jordan Jefferson some action and show the rest of the SEC what he can do, it might be to make opposing teams – namely, Alabama – have to prepare for both possibilities. Consider the Tennessee game and see how much Nick Saban will have to factor into his defensive gameplan.

For the first month of the season, LSU beat top notch football teams with dominant defense and a steady power running game mixed with some Jarrett Lee play-action passes. With Jefferson warming up, there are several new wrinkles.

That "new wrinkles" gate swings both ways in that they'll have to spend equally as much time preparing 2 QBs.

Because both Bama and LSU are so much better than any other team they've played, both will be facing a different level of competition. I think a key for Bama will be time of possession, i.e. our D needs to be as fresh as possible late in the game.  But I just don't know if we can produce sustained drives against their D.

We play UT next not LSU. They can wait. Do not look ahead. Keep your eyes on the prize.

It doesn't matter who the QB is, it comes down to assignment football.  At this stage Bama is playing good assignment football.

I think LSU will see more new things from us than we've seen against them.  We've had to show a very minimal amount of our defense this year.

^This. It seems every game we stand back and see what the opposition throws at us, then we make the necessary adjustments and successfully shut them down. This is a fun team to watch. As the game progresses, Bama becomes more and more dominant.

People always talk about a team running a few plays to make a tough upcoming opponent have to prepare for it in practice.  This seems silly to me.  You know what would be better?  Keep those plays secret (if you don't need them) so the upcoming opponent doesn't prepare for it in practice, then let them see it for the first time in the game.  After a few years of that, now suddenly they have to prepare for all possibilities because they have no idea what you are going to do.

On the flip side, this is exactly how CNS prepares the defense.  They are strong on fundamentals, techniques, and assignments.  They know how to apply the different schemes to whatever the offense chooses to run.  This is why the offense can run something totally new on us in the first quarter and sometimes have a little success.  But then we see what they are up to, make some adjustments, then shut them down.  You can't make those kind of adjustments on the fly during the game unless your team excels in all of the fundamentals and fully understands their assignments and your scheme.  If they understand the game, it is no big deal to tweak your game plan on the fly based on what surprises the other team throws at you.

I think, if Bama had played LSU earlier in the season, we might have been in trouble.  However, Bama has been improving every game, especially on offense.  And it is Bama's offense that will win that as-yet-unmentionable game in the none-too-distant future.
