“When are you Bama fans gonna bury the Bear?”
As the Crimson Tide has returned to college football prominence and dominance, we’ve seen the houndstooth pattern integrated more and more with the traditional crimson and white.
Opposing fans are quick to see it as another example of Alabama fans living in the past.
Others at the very least look at it as a nod to or homage to the greatest coach in Alabama’s – and arguably all of college football’s – history.
It is that, but it’s also so much more.
Alabama’s fans aren’t pining for Coach Bryant.
There’s no hole in the Alabama tradition from his passing almost thirty years ago; quite the contrary.
Coach Bryant accomplished what few great men throughout history accomplished: he overcame the void left by his passing by leaving something even greater — he created a legacy.
