for not getting a team in the BCS Championship game.  The SEC proposed a plus-one system a few years ago (the Auburn Rule) but only the ACC went along.  I personally would love to see a plus one this year (LSU plays Stanford, Bama plays OK State, then winners play).  I think it would lead to the same championship game, but it would be a cooler route.  http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news?slug=dw-wetzel_sec_reaps_reward_rejection_120311

That video by @Andy_Staples was slanderous at best. When I said I felt the system was working, I felt it WAS working for Texas.

Chuck Neinas calls for plus-one playoff

Interim Big 12 commissioner Chuck Neinas said Sunday night that a model allowing the top four teams of college football to meet in the postseason should be revisited.

"The plus-one model has received consideration before," Neinas said. "As a result of this year, I feel that consideration should become more serious as we move forward."

In the past, SEC commissioner Mike Slive and ACC commissioner John Swofford have supported a plus-one system. 2008!

It was rebuked by the other conferences, but now Dan Beebe is no longer Big 12 commissioner and Tom Hanson has been replaced in the Pac-12 by Larry Scott, who has proven to be forward-thinking.

In a seeded, plus-one system for this season, LSU would have faced Stanford and Alabama would have faced Oklahoma State, with the winners playing for the title.

In 2008, who blocked a 4-team playoff? The Big 12, Big Ten and Big East. Who proposed it? The SEC. Slive tried to save you from this.

With a +1 system, we would have been in back in 2008:

1   Oklahoma   12-1
2   Florida   12-1
3   Texas   11-1
4   Alabama   12-1

This would have ultimately led to a rematch with Florida.  I like the +1 system.  It makes it much easier for 2 SEC teams to get in, which practically guarantees the SEC will win the national championship every year.

I guess this is why they didn't want it.  Laughing Laughing

But that was before the SEC dominated for 6 years in a row and things got to the point where the BCS just skipped the sacrificial lamb and 2 SEC teams went straight to the title game.

Things seem to be working well for the SEC as it is,--so if it ain't broke...

The +1 makes even more sense with conference expansion and the increasing likelihood of the two best teams in the country being in the same conference.

If this happens again next year, no way the voters will put another SEC team in there.  They almost didn't do it this time.  There were a lot of people who dropped Alabama AND Stanford down in the polls in order to manipulate the matchup.  It almost worked.  Either that or Alabama and Stanford BOTH looked horrible in their bye week.

That's EXACTLY why they didn't want it.  The Big12 (and PAC10) figured they could get in on a softer schedule, SEC teams would beat each other up and rarely end up undefeated, and they wouldn't be in Kansas every year (Toto).  Instead, the SEC has dominated and changed the landscape of the BCS.  So the BCSCG has become SEC Champion v. the rest of the nation, with all the other conferences (100+ teams) fighting for that second spot.  Now realizing that they will have to earn their championship on the field regardless, these conferences have to suck it up just to get a seat at the table.

I was listening to CH 91 on Sirius (College Sports) this morning.  One of the hosts started trashing Alabama ("Had their chance, etc."), saying Okla State should get a chance.  Finally the other host said, "I thought you were pushing for Houston; last week you said they should be ahead of Bama."  He shut up.
