The University of Alabama men's basketball team opens up the 2012 portion of its schedule at Georgia Tech on Tuesday. The contest, staged at Atlanta's Philips Arena, is scheduled for an 8 p.m. CST start on ESPNU and the radio affiliates of the Crimson Tide Sports Network.

The game is UA's final non-conference game of the season before opening SEC play on Jan. 7 against Georgia and the team's second true road game of the season.

Beating an ACC team on the road can get Bama off to a good start for the upcoming conference schedule. Green is still a question mark for any playing time which I think isn't all bad because it gives the younsters that much more time on the floor. Green has been able to practice but still is not 100%.

Andrew Steele is the new addition to the team after recovering from a concussion last season. Steele has been serving as a student coach since his injury and CAG thinks this could make him a better player because he has been looking at the game from a different side of the ball and he knows the system. CAG stated that Steele has done a good good of staying in shape and hopefully in the near future he will be able to help the team. This can turn out to be a blessing for the Tide because player depth is a blessing and in conference play, you need as much depth as you can possibly get.

Roll Tide!!

I hope we get to see M Gueye tonight. His big body can help us if he is ready to play.

Unless something has happened since the last game, he should get more minutes. His conditioning is the big question, practicing and playing are two different things but he gassed pretty quick the last game. Bama will have three players for the middle now so that should open up some things for the team, especially the offense.

This sounds like the game for a foot to get in the right direction. If we step up in this game we may be ready to play Georgia. We have got to enjoy the media coverage but it is time we play some good hard round ball now. RTR!

Still watching the Sugar Bowl, but it is about time to change channels.  These teams has the suck, especially when I can be watching Bama instead.

Early in the game and Tide leads 17-11. I don't think we have hit a 3 pointer yet. Green & Mitchell playing good.

8:30 left in first half and the Tide looks good. Mitchell is killing Ga. Tech with his dunks. Score is Tide 26-15.

Lacy is getting more confindent and getting more involved in the offense. That is a very positive development. Tide leading 31-18.

Andrew Steele enters game and makes a steal. Tide leading 34-20. Tide stealing ball and scoring off their defense. No one for the Tide looks bad.

Crap! Releford hurt, Lacy playing the point. Tide leads 40-22 at half. Our D is killing Georgia Tech.

Alabama's RPI is 23 and their SOS (Schedule strength) is 20th. What a great way to enter SEC play. If we go 9-7 or 10-6 in the SEC, we will go dancing, maybe even 8-8 based on the strength of the SEC with 5 good teams. Assuming we win tonight, we enter SEC play at 11-3 with voctories over Purdue, Maryland, Wichita State, & Oklahoma State & losses to Georgetown and Kansas State, 2 very good teams.

Some odds and ends I looked up.

Georgetown    RPI  9  SOS 40
Wichita St            27          24
Kansas St            32         113
Purdue                41           96

The key is, we have to beat teams we should beat. For instance, Georgia has an RPI of 98. If we lose to them, it kills our RPI.
