Relentless defense suffocates LSU, lifts Tide to another title


In the middle of the BCS Championship Game, Crimson Tide middle linebacker Dont'a Hightower noticed something different about the top-ranked Tigers.

"After halftime, those guys came out with not as much fire as they had when they came in," he said. "From there, it was kind of downhill for those guys."

And in the end?

"I could tell they really didn't want to play against us any longer," Alabama defensive end Jesse Williams said.

This was total, absolute domination Monday night at the Superdome. Alabama allowed LSU to cross midfield only once, midway through the fourth quarter, and the Crimson Tide held the Tigers to 92 total yards and five first downs.

And no points.
