It is hard to throw the ball 50 times when you are having to do it in batches of 3, then sitting down for 6 to 10 minutes while you watch TR pounding your Mickey Mouse defense.  Of course they probably would only play d for 3 plays before they gave up the TD, so he might have thrown it 50 times after all.

They may have thrown it fifty times, but as you said it would have been tough with Bama running the ball against that D of OSU.  Also,in the SEC the DB's can play man to man defense and allow for blitzes.  Their QB may have left the game like the last Little 12 QB Bama faced.
