I admit, I'm being schooled here.  But the term is derogatory to some:
Quote
Speaking of, is there anyone else on this forum that is offended by the use of the term Viking? My ancestors were Norse, Vikings is derogatory and insinuates raping, pillaging, and general mischief.

Lord save me from the PC police. If this person knew history then he would know that the Norsemen pillaged aand raped their way through Europe as well. In fact, both the Norsemen and the vikings were well known slave traders. If we want to be PC then he owes me reparations because his ancestors (the Norsemen) raped and pillaged my people (saxons and britons, the original inhabitants of the British Isles) and sold my ancestors into slavery. In fact, I think I am going to go stage a protest outside of the Minnesota Vikings football stadium. Let my people go.  Cheesy

Laughing Laughing Laughing

Pillaging was the cool thing to do back then.

Maybe we should call him the "Village Pillager".  Once he comes through town, all the survivors have to go stay at the Y-M-C-A!  It's fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A!
If he plays like he usually does I suggest "Swiss Miss" or "Don't be Breedin' Sweden".

Actually, vikings came from Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. The term viking was not a people group, it was an action. A viking was one who raided other lands. Swedish vikings mainly traveled to Russia and other parts of the east. Their fierceness in battle caught the attention of the Byzantine emperors and they incorporated the vikings into their personal defense force which became the famous verangian guard, the most famous military force in Constantinople. So Carl is descended from vikings. We need a cool nickname for him, like the Mighty Viking, or Verangian Terror, or something. Help me out here.

How about the "Monster from UP Yonder"?  Maybe his dad will show up on here and help us out.  Cheesy

One thing about this is that ESPNU kept showing a photo of Mitchell during the game, complete with his stats.  That had to hurt!

Give the Aub coach credit:
Quote
“It had nothing to do with the officiating,” Auburn coach Tony Barbee said. “We just didn’t play well, and give Alabama credit.

“They came in here and played with a high level of confidence, and at the end of the day, it came down to toughness. We got out-toughed..”

He's still learning how to be an Aub; probably be reprimanded for saying that.

Laughing
"Coach, after games when Bama beats the crap out of us, you are to blame the following: referees, the REC, weather conditions, the SEC, NCAA, the BCS, Mike Gundy, BHO, international communism, the economy, conservatives, Gov. Bentley, fatigue, BAMAWV, Crimson Red Sports, Cecil Hurt, CNS, global warming ...."

Had to listen to AUs radio team on XM some last night.  Bramblett (SP?) was whining about the refs FINALLY calling a foul on Bama...then went on to say that AU was in the 1 and 1 from the 13 minute mark of the second half.  Uh...I think that means they called a LOT of fouls?

MD, in that case, the football team needs to change their nickname.

I've been watching a show called Portlandia that parodies the liberal mindset.  One skit involves a citizen group approaching the police chief of Portlandia with complaints about police insensibilities-- and have suggestions as to new "outfits" (uniforms) for the cops to wear. The police chief ends this meeting with, "OK,  how about from this morning on, you all police yourselves!"
