Athletes should get the same kind of scholarship commitment from a university as a person there on academic scholarship.  No more.  No less.  I know the athletes have a lot extra on their plate but that's how I feel.  The world could live without sports, but doctors, teachers, etc...no way.

You are extending far more respect to the teaching profession than most would. Coaching is the only subgroup with some semblance of performance evaluation and ongoing training.
