With minimal experiments, Tide kicks off spring football practice today

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - Spring practice is a football coach's laboratory. It's a time to experiment.

But Alabama coach Nick Saban probably will stop short of becoming the mad scientist when spring practice starts today.
Brent Calloway is being moved from running back to linebacker.

Maybe that's Jesse Williams, who is moving from defensive end to nose guard to replace the departed Josh Chapman, a two-year starter.

I posted this link to an ESPN story about Eddie L and Cy K being out for spring practice in another thread.  But after reading the al.com story I don't know what to think.  Can't believe al.com would overlook this.

Lacy and Arie Kouandjio (not Cyrus) will miss spring practice. Coach Saban has confirmed this. Both are recovering from injuries and will be ready to go when fall practice starts. They are both participating in conditioning drills as much as possible.

The story is about Saban's experiments, which he usually does a lot during Spring practice but not so much this year.

Not to beat a dead horse... but the ESPN story implies that Lacy had surgery in the offseason.  Any truth to that or is the ESPN story just badly written?  I guess Eddie is still battling the turf toe too.
