Quote
WASHINGTON -- The Senate wants to grill the NFL about bounties. And the NBA, NHL, NCAA and Major League Baseball are invited, too.

Sen. Dick Durbin is setting up a Judiciary Committee hearing about bounties in professional football and other major sports in the wake of news that New Orleans Saints players received extra cash for hits that hurt particular opponents. The assistant Senate majority leader, an Illinois Democrat, said Thursday he wants to examine whether federal law should make such bounty systems a crime.

Yeah, because our country's in such great shape, they've got nothing better to do.

When is the gov'ment gonna keep their big fat self-righteous noses out of sports. I'm not condoning any of these athlete's actions, but puuuulllease!, they have no business looking into anything. The federal gov't doesn't subsidize anything in professional sports, so bug off and go fix the economy or something!   Pull hair

It's OK, 2. Slowly let your finger off the trigger, easy back into your seat, and start slowly sipping the bourbon.  Tongue

I agree, though. The economy is the pits, there are rising gas prices, we are still in a war, and this moron wants an investigation into bounty programs in sports.

Don't they have something more important to be doing like lowering gas prices?

I was a Congressional intern in the late 1980s.  These guys hold hearings about everything.  There are several different hearings going on every day across Capital Hill.  The Senate holds hearings.  The House holds hearings.  The House and Senate committees hold hearings.  The House and Senate subcommittees hold hearings.  (In fact, I was an intern for the House Subcommittee on Constitutional Law, and during one Semester they held at least a week-long hearing every month, plus an oversight hearing on the FBI every month, which was another subcommittee function.)

To this day, I still have never figured out the point of it.  It was all politics -- hold hearings, develop "evidence," which maybe will be used later in creating a new bill, or in negotiating a bill, possibly it will put some political pressure on an issue, political payback, but mostly it was a complete waste of time.

If you are smart, you skip the hearings and figure out where the free food and drinks are.

What I can't figure out, CP, is if they have so many hearings, why can't they hear us, the people.  Thinking

Fire 'em all, call a constitutional convention, and ratify an amendment to enact term limits for those idiots.

Require them to actually attend sessions of Congress.

I'd have to have a very early start and some heavy battle gear on my trip down

Saw this somewhere.
Fezzari Bikes:  "Ride Like A Girl"  Is this your business, or your dream ride?

This guy Marty made custom bikes in Huntsville for a time, under the "Sano" brand name.  Sponsored a mountain bike racing team in Georgia.  I still have one of those bikes.
