Good time to revive the thread.
Braves up 8.5 games over the Nationals; Phillies collapse.

I love the Braves, but with all their pitching injuries, I can not see how they make it to the World Series. Tim Hudson out for the season, Brandon Beachy who has just returned to replace Hudson. Beachy has not pitched in the majors since last year.  Starter Paul Malhom is out with a bruised wrist, Venters has been in & out of the lineup, O'Flaherty is out for season, & I can't remember what else. We just picked up Scott Downs, a lefty with some decent stuff who comes out of the bullpen, but he is 37 years old.

Young pup with great reaction time:

Braves are so far ahead at this point with such an easy schedule remaining (only 7 games against teams above .500), it seems impossible for them to miss the playoffs.  I'd be surprised if they make it past the first round, however.  Losing Hudson hurts, but I don't think they can score runs against a teams best 3 starters in a playoff series either.

I watched part of the game last night. It looked like one of those games that would be fun to be there. Pretty good, coming back from 5-0.

I just hope the Braves don't leak oil down the stretch as they are capable of doing, particularly with the injuries. We'll just have to see how it plays out.

Their problems have remained the same in the playoffs since they went to the World Series in 1991. No clutch hitting and relief pitching falling apart in the late innings.

I was just thinking of the Braves success right now and immediately I was reminded of all of their past late season failures. Their bats are red hot right now and I just don't see this lasting for the rest of the season. Their pitching is very iffy and must have the hot bat support that they are enjoying at the moment. Then there is the injury bug that seems to have become a permanent resident with the team. They have the big lead and I'm not so sure that either the Nationals or Phillies can regroup and make a run at them but if that is the case and maybe a trade or two by the Braves they just might it to the big dance. I've got my fingers crosssed. Wink

Good assessment, Jamos.
I think we need to set our Braves' priorities and try to enjoy them.  Try this:

1. Get into the playoffs as a wildcard:  Woot, enjoy.

2. Win their division:  WOOOOT.  Enjoy.
3. Get into the World Series:    Enjoy.
4. Win World Series:  Celebrate like there's no tomorrow.  Applause E-Cred

They are a hot team right now, and the regulars are getting some rest.

I just wonder who will be in the 5 man starting rotation. We have:

Minor (our best starter, 25 yoa out of Vandy)
Teheran (22 yoa, thank goodness he has come out of nowhere)
Medlen (hot & cold & 27 yoa)
Beachy (pitched his first game in over a year the other night)
Wood (22 yoa)

Maholm should be coming off the DL in a week, hopefully

This starting rotation makes me queasy.

The Braves seem to be trolling right along, but, what happens if we have one more starting player period goes down, than we are in trouble. I know when they are this hot just before the play offs start it really scares me. RTR!

Won again last night and are now 11 games in first. Bravos lead 5-2 in the bottom of the 7th tonight. If they blow an 11 game lead, they need to be shot.

September hasn't always been good to the Braves. Afraid
