I'm not all that concerned about the division now. It would take an historically bad month of September (knock on wood) for the Braves to blow that lead. What concerns me is the team's health going into the playoffs. Heyward's loss concerns me more than Beachy. If someone doesn't step up at the top of the order, producing runs is going to be a problem.

The team looked uninspired last night.  It appeared that they were expecting to lose, even when they had the lead.  Hope that isn't a trend.
 Sad

BTW, their win totals still matter in deciding home-field advantage.  So it's not just a matter of winning their division...

I thought they looked really flat yesterday. The Division lead should be safe but they absolutely have to avoid a long (8-10 games) losing streak and let Nats back in the chase.

I think the team may be really down with the continuing loss of players due to injuries. Heyward had really given the team a jolt with his lead off hitting and now they have to have someone try to pick up the pace. I wouldn't be too upset right now since the Cardinals are an excellent team, but someone needs to get hot to pick the team up.

Point taken. I had forgotten that bit of information. Well now I am depressed.  Sad

Don't worry, guys.  After this series and the next one against the Indians, the Braves don't play anyone to fret over.  They'll be able to get their guys plenty rest going into the postseason and have everyone fresh.

I'm thinking that there's going to be some really great playoff series this year.  I think there are 4-5 teams in both leagues on about the same level.

If I were just picking with my head, I'd probably put the Tigers and the Cardinals in the World Series.  With my heart it's the Dodgers and anybody.

But at the same time the Braves, Dodgers, and Pirates all have a real shot in the NL, and the Red Sox, Rays, and Rangers all have a pretty good shot in the AL.

I just don' know how far the Braves can go in the playoffs with all of these injury losses, especially in starting pitching. The loss of Hudson is huge & now Beachy. Plus, either Uggla or BJ Upton need to start hitting in the playoffs. I expect Heyward to be very rusty with his hitting and maybe a bit out-of-shape physically. I am hoping for the best and for someone to step up their game.

There's definitely no reason Heyward should be out of shape.  He'll be able to run, take BP with a special helmet, throw etc fairly soon.  They just don't want to risk a collision in live play.

The Braves and the Cards are playing "tater" ball tonight. In the 1st, Freeman homered for the Braves and Carpenter homered for the Cards. In the third, Beltran has now homered for the Cards and they are now leading 2-1 after 3 innings.

Excellent points. I had my mind locked in on him having an injury which would limit his mobility but he can still do some workouts.

The Braves are leading the Cards 5-2 with 2 out in the bottom of the 8th. Mike Minor pitched 7 strong innings and left with a 5-1 lead. Come on bullpen.
