Because they own the head-to-head tiebreaker, the Braves would clinch this advantage if both teams win their remaining two regular-season games. But if St. Louis loses during this weekend's three-game series against the Cubs, Atlanta would simply need to win one of the next two games, during which Philadelphia will start Ethan Martin and Zach Miner. In simpler terms, Atlanta can clinch on Saturday with a win combined with a St. Louis loss.
The Braves are already guaranteed to start the NLDS at home. If they finish as the NL's top seed, they will avoid a first-round matchup against the Dodgers and will instead face the winner of the Reds-Pirates battle in the Wild Card Game.

Thanks, pmull.  Looks like the Braves are sitting pretty.  I really don't look forward to going to St. Louis for the NLDS.  The Cards were my pick for the NL World Series participant.

Cards blowing out the Cubs 6-0 in the 4th.  Bucs beat the Reds to clinch home field in their one game play-in.

Braves need a win today and a Cardinals loss for the home team advantage.  Otherwise it will be the Braves and Dodgers in the NLDS.

And what a way for Andy Pettite to go out, huh?  First complete game since 2006.  With the win he improved to 11-11 which means he never posted a losing record in his career.

Didn't happen.  Both STL and ATL won.

I say to pmull this is going to be a great series cause both teams are good. The Dodgers are better than any team I seen them have for a long time. I think it goes the full 5 game series. RTR!

An unnerving stat for the start of the playoffs, the Braves batted .223 in September. The Braves led the NL in homers (177) but were shut out 17 times, 2nd in the league. Plus, they have struck out over 1300 times, 2nd in the NL, but were 5th in runs scored. This tells us something we all know about the Braves, they are inconsistent when it comes to hitting. Which Braves team will we see?

So, are you picking the Dodgers to win this 5-game series?
That's bad ju-ju.

We need Chief Knockahoma back. Sounds like the Braves either strike out or hit a home run. We could use him.

I'm hoping the Braves play as they have at home in the regular season this year because the Dodgers will start their ace, Kershaw (spelling ?), and he is very tough. Maybe the the Braves game plan will be to play small ball and try to manufactor some runs as the Dodgers of old used to do. I just don't see the Braves hitting the long ball against him but I've been wrong more than I've ever  been right in predicting on sporting events. Go Braves!! Angry
