I think it might depend on the situation.  Normally he would I think, but there was a rumor that someone in has family had an illness.  If that is the case, I think he can apply to get some sort of waiver for medical hardship or something.  I'm not sure about any of that though.

I heard yesterday (on Jox, I think) that Alabama will release him so he won't have to sit a year.

He can apply for a waiver requesting tp play immediately because he is transferring to be closer to home due to medical hardship of a close relative. These waivers are rarely approved.

His high school coach is not helping by telling to the press that he is transferring seeking playing time. The coach was also quoted saying that AJ won the QB job only because he was a local recruit. I like P. Sims and wish him well but his HS coach needs to shut up.
