Alabama staved off hard-charging UCLA to finish the stroke play portion of the NCAA men's golf championships in first place.
In its third of three rounds at the Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, the Crimson Tide posted a 3-over, 287, to finish two strokes ahead of the Bruins at 7-over, 859, for the tournament.
Alabama will be one of eight teams vying for the national title over the next three days of match play. The Crimson Tide, which will have the top seed, will be gunning for the program's fourth national title of the 2011-12 academic year.
