This is a big time recruit for CAG and the Bama program. We have to replace Mitchell and Green. Jacobs looked solid last year as a true freshman and I expect him to be much improved this year. Our two returning big guys need to step up. One of them needs to become more than just a role player. Pollard will be asked to help on the front court quickly. If he comes in as advertised he can help with scoring and rebounding. Our back court should be in very good shape. This years team will be fun to watch.
Pollard is just the 10th McDonald's All-American to sign with Alabama, and he joins a distinguished list. The others: Bobby Lee Hurt and Ennis Whatley (1981), Buck Johnson (1982), James "Hollywood" Robinson and Jamal Faulkner (1989), Wallace (2000), Mo Williams (2001), Hendrix (2005) and Green (2008).
How much will Pollard help, and how soon? How about right away as a starter?
He's a 6-foot-7, 200-pound left-hander that can play multiple positions. His senior-year averages at Kemper County (Miss.) High School of 23.8 points, 15.7 rebounds and 5.1 blocks speak to his consistency. His triple-double in the state semifinal game -- 28 points, 10 rebounds, 10 blocks -- shouts his ability to rise to the moment.
