Robert Nkemdiche, the nation's consensus #1 recruit for the 2013 recruiting class, committed to Dabo Sweeney this afternoon.

Nkemdiche was originally scheduled to make a visit to Bama next weekend.  It will be very interesting to see if he keeps those plans.

Somethhing is telling me that this commitment won't stick, guess we will have to wait and see on NSD.

It is a long time until signing day. I would not give up on him yet. Once a couple of teams run up 40 plus points on Clemson this year he may rethink playing LB in that system. I like Dabo but I doubt he will be at Clemson much longer. I think he is holding on to his job by a thread now.

So why would a talented prospect pick Clemson over a place where LBs  have a demonstrated fast lane to the NFL?

Just wondering if we are missing something.

I really thought if he went anywhere other than Bama, it would be UGA. If he's as good as advertised, he will be an island on defense with that team. He will be too spent to make it to the NFL.

I heard that he has a couple of friends in Clemson. Also, Dabo is a heck of a recruiter, and he was on his recruiting trip this past weekend, so he could have been caught up in the moment. I am like everyone else: I don't expect this to stick. I believe he might change his mind when he comes to Bama in a couple of weeks.

I guess we will see.  With Clemson's defense, he is guaranteed early playing time.

Well if you was not fortunate enough to choose Alabama, we wish you well in your endeavors. We respect Coach Dabo cause he can tell you what it is like to be from Alabama. I understand that a lot of recruits do not want to put in the hard work it takes to win National Championships. God Bless. RTR!

The recruiting of RN is far from over. It's like what Randy Kennedy said on the radio yesterday, do you really think CNS is sitting at home after this announcement and saying "Well, dang. OK, who do we go after now?"

I apologize if this has been mentioned, but Dabo Swinney and Mickey Conn (Nkemdiche's HS coach) played football together at Bama and I believe were even roommates at one point.  Also, Clemson has offered 4 players from Nkemdiche's team (he and 3 other) scholarships.  Robert and another are considered legit D-I prospects, the other two really aren't.  Mid-major level D-I recruits at best.

Also, there are a lot of rumors that Conn is going to be joining Swinney's staff.  Maybe Mickey is trying to "Gus Malzahn" his way up to the next level?

Could be. At least Conn will get along better with Swinney than Malzahn did with Nutt.

Only a few of you will understand this, but I'm a little disappointed in Mr. Conn.  Embarrassed

Mostly, he's selling out his players if he's steering them to Clemson to get himself a job.  Surely Nkemdiche will figure that out and find a school (ahem!) where he can prepare for the NFL.   Smiley
